Why choose me

Finding the right therapist is a lot like shopping for a good pair of shoes. You might need to shop around before you find the right pair.

So why me?

I have been in your shoes and not known where to start or what matters. So, I understand how hard it can be to take those first steps on your journey.  It is through my own life experiences and the benefits I received through counselling, that it inspired me to retrain as a counsellor, so that I can now help others who have difficulties in some area of their lives.

Counselling does not mean you are weak or needy, it is about giving yourself the permission and time you deserve to look at your thoughts and feelings. Talking to friends and family can be difficult sometimes as they often want to make it all better and offer you advice, which is very kind but that comes from their perspective not yours.

Counselling helps to work out what is the right answer for you.

The most import factor for successful therapy to occur seems to lie around the relationship between the client and counsellor. This is something I would strongly agree with. If that gut feeling is not there for you, then that counsellor is not the right choice for you.

To support that working relationship, I will provide a warm and safe place for you to explore and learn. I will be honest, non-judgmental and aim to look at the world as you see it. Although I do not possess a magic wand and can make no promises. I can support, guide and walk with you on your journey.

Experience with children & adolescents

I strongly belief that young people with any kind of  mental health issue is just as important if not more than adults. If young people get the right support it can make a huge difference.

Sadly children's mental health issues seem to be rising. I have done some training with Wakefield CAMHS, which highlighted for me how the rise of anxiety and depression in young people is placing a massive demand on their services.

Young people are more commonly dealing with self-harm and eating disorders, often as a coping mechanism for anxiety and depression. For parents this can feel very scary and difficult, often leaving them asking why? So can you imagine what a young person must be dealing with to go to such lengths as causing harm to themselves.

As this is something I feel passionate about I trained voluntarily with a nationally renowned children's counselling service (Place 2 be) I was based in schools working with children with issues such as grief, anxiety and anger. This is done through play and taking. I have also worked with teenagers in my private practice with issues relating to stress, depression, anxiety and self-esteem.

What is counselling?

Counselling

Counselling falls under the umbrella term ‘talking therapies’ and allows people to discuss their problems and any difficult feelings they encounter in a safe, confidential environment. The term can mean different things to different people, but in general it is a process people seek when they want to change something in their lives or simply explore their thoughts and feelings in more depth.

Child & Adolescent Counselling

Counselling children and adolescents is often different from counselling adults, though the objective is the same. Methods used in counselling children and adolescents often depend on the clients’ age, development stage and individual challenges. My role as the counsellor is to help the client, no matter the age, to make their own decisions rather than making decisions for them.

Integrative Counselling

My counselling approach is based upon an integrative counselling. This is a combined approach to counselling that brings together different elements of specific therapies. Integrative therapists take the view that there is no single approach that can treat each client in all situations. Each person needs to be considered as a whole and the counselling techniques must be tailored to their individual needs and personal circumstances.
